My advice is to pay appropriate respect to the sponsors. They’re looking for one thing in return for their contribution: exposure. Make sure they get it or they won’t be back for next year’s unconference.

Talk to IT ahead of time to arrange for access to WiFi, troubleshooting if needed (projectors, connecting to the network). Pages on the wiki for locals to recommend places to stay and for people who are looking to share rooms and rides.

Build in time for people to get any materials you’re provided, grab food, latecomers, time between sessions, etc..

Have troubleshooters ready for any technical problems (connecting to the network, setting up projectors if needed, etc.).

We did pretty well in terms of coming up with topics and a schedule, in part because we’d pre-seeded the wiki with potential things to discuss.

That Francoeur guy could probably come up with more pointers.
